A Medal personally approved by Royalty is available to ex-Royal Navy veterans who served in Jordan between 1948 and 1958.

The Jordan Service Medal. Approved by King Hussein I of Jordan, can be worn by those who served in and around the Middle East Kingdom at the time, including those in ships which were on patrol in the Gulf of Aqaba and ships which visited or stood off giving air cover during the 1958 crisis. such as HM ships Eagle and Bulwark.

In a letter to medal administrative officers, the King thanked them for their dedication and determination in ensuring that the old soldiers' are properly recognised for their out-standing service to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan."

More than 1,100 ex-Service personnel already have the medal, which comes in two versions - the only difference being that one carries the date 1958.

Mr G. Harris, whose initiative led to the creation of the medal, previously stated that most claimants are ex-Army or RAF and he is keen that RN veterans are aware of the opportunity.

Funds raised by the medal which did cost 25 - have benefited SSAFA Forces Help and the King Hussein Memorial fund by thousands of pounds.
